The Port Washington School District has been recognized by the New York State Art Teachers Association (NYSATA) as a recipient of the NYSATA Community of Excellence in Visual Arts award. Port Washington is one of only 26 districts across the state to earn this distinction, which honors school systems demonstrating a high level of commitment to visual arts education.
The district was selected based on its accomplishments and community support in alignment with NYSATA’s VISION criteria. These standards emphasize visual arts instruction led by certified educators, a sequential and standards-based curriculum, and a focus on inclusivity, equity, and accessibility. By meeting these benchmarks, the district ensures our students will have a variety of high quality opportunities within a strong artistic and curricular environment.
Kevin Scully, Director of Creative Arts, expressed pride in the district’s dedication to the visual arts, saying, “We have always been proud of the visual arts in the Port Washington School District. Our students and their teachers take great pride in their individual work and commitment to a wider artistic community. This award highlights the district’s efforts to maintain a supportive environment for all our student-artists, while also providing high-quality instruction and opportunities.”

Dr. Passi credited this achievement to the collective support for creative programs, stating that “our commitment to the arts is a fundamental part of our mission to provide a well-rounded education, and this award confirms that our programs are meeting the highest standards in the state.”
